October is Clergy Appreciation Month

While every month we appreciate the shepherd God has given us, October is set aside to recognize and show appreciation for our Pastor.  We are so blessed to have Pastor Craig and his wife Lori to help guide us on our walk with God.
Let us remember them both in our daily reflections and prayer and offer our thanks to Christ for providing us with such a compassionate leader.  Let us also not forget Lori who is also a great blessing to us through her acts throughout our church and the many sacrifices she makes in allowing Pastor Craig to lead us.

Our Outreach project for the month of October is Operation Christmas Child.

Happenings this Week

Simply by opening the pages of a good book, we may enjoy places we could never afford to go, explore uncharted lands, and experience so many things.  What book can take us farther than the Bible?  It carries us back to the beginning of time all the way through to the magnificent throne of God that awaits us.

This past Sunday, we were able to provide 6 wonderful children with Bibles from the church.  It is said that “children learn what they live”.  What better gift can we give than allowing our children to learn to live according to God’s Word?

May The Word help bless these youth and provide them the knowledge to make an eternal difference in their lives, and the lives which they come by.

Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs:22:6

Where Can I Serve?

At First United Methodist Church, it is our hope that both members and visitors would find opportunities for fellowship and growth in our ministries. From the youngest children to the oldest adults, we hope that you can find a ministry to provide you with the spiritual growth and shared experience you desire.

Mission Outreach

FUMC is active in sending missionaries to Mexico to build casas.   We also have a mission that goes to Africa about every 3 years.

Stephen Ministers

Even if you are not a Stephen Leader or Stephen Minister you are the front lines of caring ministry in our congregation.

We are the eyes and ears of Jesus on earth today.  It is our duty to be watching and listening to people around us, recognizing when they have needs for care.  If you find someone with a need, listen and care.  If you find the need is greater than you can provide, tell that person about our Stephen Ministry and put him or her in touch  with Myrt Bacon or Pastor Craig.

Jesus is depending on us to be his eyes and ears on earth.

Children’s Ministry

Children from pre-school to 5th grade have many opportunities to have fun while learning about the power of Jesus, including Sunday morning worship hour, Kidz Club and Wednesday and Sunday night youth groups. There are also special programs throughout the year; Vacation Bible School, the Fall Festival, Christmas Vacation Bible School, and the Spring Fair.

Scottsbluff fills backpacks at the First Presbyterian Church every Tuesday and Gering fills them at Summit Christian College.

Caring Outreach of Love Committee Reaches out to show the church’s love and concern to its members.

New Life

New Life is a  grief support group.  They meet for a program or discussion over a covered dish luncheon on the third Thursday of the month and on the first Saturday at 8:30 at various restaurants for breakfast. They extend an invitation to join in their fellowship.

Chancel Choir & Methodist Bells

Music plays a vital role in the life of our church. The Chancel Choir and Worship Team offer adults a way to praise the

Lord through song. The Methodist Bells and Joy Bells handbell choirs welcome new members ages middle school and older.

Bible Studies

Long term and short term Bible studies are offered throughout the year. There are many ways to serve as we seek to spread God’s word to our community and beyond. Senior lunches, a monthly grief support group, Men’s and Women’s studies, and group trips are just a few of the activities that fill our church with life, laughter, and fellowship.  Some of the bible studies include, Monday Night Study, Rose Bible Study, Wednesday bible study, Women’s Work in Progress and Followers on Sunday.

Vacation Bible School

We typically have around 80 kids come to our Vacation Bible School, which this year’s theme was “Cave Quest.” For more information, contact Missi at 225-2527 or miasillo@aol.com.

Wednesday Night Supper (Fall/Winter)

Kids First accepts all children ages 6 weeks – 13 years, regardless of race, color, sex, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, handicap or medical condition provided the established program can meet the needs of the individual child with reasonable accommodations.

Our Philosophy-We believe that each child is a unique gift from God and should be treated with love and respect.  Our purpose is to nurture and guide them as they grow physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially and spiritually into the person God intends them to be.
