Happenings this Week

Simply by opening the pages of a good book, we may enjoy places we could never afford to go, explore uncharted lands, and experience so many things.  What book can take us farther than the Bible?  It carries us back to the beginning of time all the way through to the magnificent throne of God that awaits us.

This past Sunday, we were able to provide 6 wonderful children with Bibles from the church.  It is said that “children learn what they live”.  What better gift can we give than allowing our children to learn to live according to God’s Word?

May The Word help bless these youth and provide them the knowledge to make an eternal difference in their lives, and the lives which they come by.

Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.  Proverbs:22:6

Where Can I Serve?

At First United Methodist Church, it is our hope that both members and visitors would find opportunities for fellowship and growth in our ministries. From the youngest children to the oldest adults, we hope that you can find a ministry to provide you with the spiritual growth and shared experience you desire.

Mission Outreach

FUMC is active in sending missionaries to Mexico to build casas.   We also have a mission that goes to Africa about every 3 years.

Stephen Ministers

Even if you are not a Stephen Leader or Stephen Minister you are the front lines of caring ministry in our congregation.

We are the eyes and ears of Jesus on earth today.  It is our duty to be watching and listening to people around us, recognizing when they have needs for care.  If you find someone with a need, listen and care.  If you find the need is greater than you can provide, tell that person about our Stephen Ministry and put him or her in touch  with Myrt Bacon or Pastor Craig.

Jesus is depending on us to be his eyes and ears on earth.

Children’s Ministry

Children from pre-school to 5th grade have many opportunities to have fun while learning about the power of Jesus, including Sunday morning worship hour, Kidz Club and Wednesday and Sunday night youth groups. There are also special programs throughout the year; Vacation Bible School, the Fall Festival, Christmas Vacation Bible School, and the Spring Fair.

Catpacks

Scottsbluff fills backpacks at the First Presbyterian Church every Tuesday and Gering fills them at Summit Christian College.

COOL

Caring Outreach of Love Committee Reaches out to show the church’s love and concern to its members.

New Life

New Life is a  grief support group.  They meet for a program or discussion over a covered dish luncheon on the third Thursday of the month and on the first Saturday at 8:30 at various restaurants for breakfast. They extend an invitation to join in their fellowship.

Chancel Choir & Methodist Bells

Music plays a vital role in the life of our church. The Chancel Choir and Worship Team offer adults a way to praise the

Lord through song. The Methodist Bells and Joy Bells handbell choirs welcome new members ages middle school and older.

Bible Studies

Long term and short term Bible studies are offered throughout the year. There are many ways to serve as we seek to spread God’s word to our community and beyond. Senior lunches, a monthly grief support group, Men’s and Women’s studies, and group trips are just a few of the activities that fill our church with life, laughter, and fellowship.  Some of the bible studies include, Monday Night Study, Rose Bible Study, Wednesday bible study, Women’s Work in Progress and Followers on Sunday.

Vacation Bible School

We typically have around 80 kids come to our Vacation Bible School, which this year’s theme was “Cave Quest.” For more information, contact Missi at 225-2527 or miasillo@aol.com.

Wednesday Night Supper (Fall/Winter)

Wednesday Night Supper is every Wednesday through the fall and winter months from 5:30-6:00 for $3.  Stay afterwards for our Youth Groups for Pre-K and up children.

Seasonal Children’s Festivals

We usually have a fall, Christmas and spring VBS. Spring VBS will be coming up on the afternoons of April 3rd from 1-3:30 and will include all of the usual fun fall activities—videos, snacks, games, crafts and, of course, learning the program.  You do not need to come to both weeks and you are not required to be in the Spring program.

Wednesday Afternoon Club (Summer)

If you are or know a kid who is too old for Daycare, but too young to work and just needs something to do……WAC is for them!!  We will be meeting this summer for the month of June and also July 9 and July 16 from 12-5 and just having some fun.  We will meet in Wesley Hall and we will have lunch and then do any number of activities.  We will be watching movies, playing games, service projects, bowling and just having fun.  Bring friends and meet new friends!!  EVERYONE is welcome.

The Mission Outreach project for September is………

DOVES

is the designated Outreach project for the month of September.   The DOVES Program was founded in 1979 to provide support to victims of domestic violence in Scotts Bluff County. Since that time, it has grown to assist victims of dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking as well.

DOVES provides 24-hour assistance; offers immediate, on-going and long-term support, and connects individuals to other community resources for legal, medical or emergency help.

The greatest need is non-perishable grocery items for their food pantry – especially fruit, spaghettios, ravioli, & mac n’cheese.  They can also use hygiene items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap and toothpaste. Gift cards in $5 and $10 denominations are also useful (Walmart, K Mart, grocery stores, etc.)  Donation items should be placed in the outreach bin at the west end of Fellowship Hall and gift cards should be left in the office.  Thank you for your support.

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in Kids First Preschool and Child Care Center.

We understand that choosing where your child will be cared for while away from you is a very important decision.  Our hope is that this article will provide you with helpful information as you select the place for you child’s early childhood education.

Kids First accepts all children ages 6 weeks – 13 years, regardless of race, color, sex, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, handicap or medical condition provided the established program can meet the needs of the individual child with reasonable accommodations.

Our Philosophy-We believe that each child is a unique gift from God and should be treated with love and respect.  Our purpose is to nurture and guide them as they grow physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially and spiritually into the person God intends them to be.
